I’m one of many “Apollo Kids” – someone born in the Space Coast region of Florida near Kennedy Space Center during the Space Race that eventually saw the US land the first people on the moon.  My grandfather worked for NASA as an electrical engineer responsible for tracking the rockets as they launched, my Dad led the fire and safety teams that kept the workers and most importantly astronauts safe during launch operations and my mother was part of the large medical team.

Me, I was a young kind in awe of watching Saturn V’s and other missiles heading into space literally across the river from my front yard.  Imagine something taller than the biggest building in downtown Raleigh flying away while it literally shook the ground beneath your feet. What six year old boy wouldn’t love that?

Not long after Apollo, my grandfather retired, and he gifted me a home computer kit in 1973.  The kit was basically a circuit board and boxes of resistors, transistors and a handful of chips that needed to be soldered all together to build a computer that had 1K of memory – or roughly eight billion times less than the machine I’m using to write this bio today.  We finished it, hooked it up to the television and after saying a quick prayer turned it on…and I was hooked for life.

Computers became my career after spending time working in fiber optics and telephony research and development, and I have never looked back.  I’ve spent over 25 years building computers, networks and now systems like the ones we use at Zig Zibit to manage our orders, suppliers and accounting.  And out of all the teams I’ve worked with – one of the original Silicon Valley companies (Raychem) to one of the Triangle’s most successful startups – Zig Zibit has the most creative people dedicated to customer service and product delivery that I’ve ever seen in all of those years.  It’s an honor to work with folks like that – they are an inspiration.

When I’m not working, I love to spend time with writing, photography, flying drones, mountain-biking, golfing, camping, fishing and traveling near and far.
